“Where Curiosity Begins”

A Reggio-inspired kindergarten where children explore, investigate and make their own discoveries — with teachers alongside them as co-learners.

Teaching Approach

Four ideas shape every day in our classrooms.

1 ~ Reggio-Inspired Learning

The Reggio Emilia Approach views children as capable and knowledgeable learners who communicate and express themselves in many different ways. It values children’s interests, ideas, curiosity, and relationships with their environment.
At Pumpkin House, we do not seek to replicate the Reggio Emilia Approach exactly. Instead, we are Reggio-inspired, taking the principles that align with our beliefs about children and adapting them to our own educational context.
Our learning environment is carefully designed to encourage children to explore, investigate, communicate, and make their own discoveries. Teachers act as co-learners and facilitators, observing children’s interests and supporting them as they develop their ideas.
Through inquiry-based experiences, children are encouraged to develop independent thinking, creativity, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of the world around them. We also nurture values such as citizenship, respect, collaboration, and collective responsibility.

2 ~ Project-Based Learning

At Pumpkin House, children’s questions, interests, play, and discoveries can become the starting point for meaningful projects.
Teachers observe what children are interested in and encourage them to investigate further. Rather than simply giving children the answers, teachers ask thought-provoking questions that encourage children to:
Ask questions
Share ideas and theories
Make predictions
Investigate and research
Work collaboratively
Solve problems
Reflect on their learning
Projects may begin with an individual child’s interest and develop into a deeper group learning experience. Teachers guide the process while allowing children’s interests and ideas to influence the direction of the project.
The learning journey is documented through children’s work, photographs, observations, conversations, and learning stories, which may be displayed in the classroom or shared with families.

For us, Project-Based Learning is about the journey of discovery, not simply the final product.

3 ~ Risky Play

Children need opportunities to explore their capabilities, make choices, and experience manageable challenges.
At Pumpkin House, we incorporate loose parts, natural materials, and real-life resources into children’s play and exploration. We provide opportunities for age-appropriate risky play, where children can experience safe challenges according to their developmental level, physical abilities, and individual comfort.
With appropriate guidance and supervision, risky play can help children develop:
Confidence
Resilience
Independence
Decision-making skills
Emotional regulation
Physical and motor skills

We believe that allowing children to experience manageable challenges helps them learn to assess situations, make decisions, overcome difficulties, and become more confident in their own abilities.

4 ~ Learning Through Exploration

Learning by doing

Our learning environment acts as a teacher in its own right. Instead of providing children with ready-made answers, we create opportunities for them to discover answers through hands-on experiences.
Through purposeful play and exploration, children learn to make choices, take initiative, persevere through challenges, and become independent learners.

Learning Corners & Play Invitations

Our learning corners and play invitations are intentionally set up to encourage individual exploration while nurturing children’s independence and confidence.
Children can choose activities based on their interests and developmental needs, allowing them to take ownership of their learning.

Blocks Corner

Building, designing, problem-solving, and developing spatial awareness.

Arts Corner

Exploring creativity, self-expression, colours, textures, and different art materials.

Literacy Corner

Developing early writing, language, phonics, and communication skills.

Reading Corner

Building a love for books, storytelling, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Role play corner

Developing imagination, communication, social skills, and an understanding of the world.

Sensorial corner

Exploring different textures, sounds, shapes, colours, and sensory experiences.

Manipulative corner

Strengthening fine motor skills, concentration, coordination, and logical thinking.

Seven corners, one classroom

Children move between them freely, following what they are curious about that day.

Our Goal

Through our combination of Reggio-Inspired Learning, Project-Based Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Risky Play, we create an environment where children are not simply told what to learn. They are encouraged to wonder, question, explore, experiment, collaborate, and discover.

Because at Pumpkin House, we believe that every child has the potential to be a confident thinker, creative problem-solver, curious learner, and active contributor to the world around them.

Programs

At Pumpkin House, our curriculum is designed to provide children with a strong foundation for lifelong learning while nurturing their confidence, creativity, curiosity, and communication skills.

We implement Kurikulum Prasekolah 2026 (KP2026) and complement it with a rich, holistic learning experience that supports the development of the whole child.

Languages

Trilingual Learning

Our children are exposed to three languages — English, Bahasa Melayu, and Mandarin. This multilingual environment helps children develop strong communication skills while building an appreciation for different languages and cultures.

Literacy

English & Phonics

Our English programme includes English Phonics and Budding Bean English. Phonics helps children build their vocabulary, pronunciation, reading readiness, and confidence in using English. Budding Bean English focuses on developing children’s English comprehension, speaking, and listening skills, helping them communicate confidently in everyday situations.

Numeracy

Mathematics

Our Mathematics programme develops early numeracy and logical thinking through age-appropriate activities, hands-on learning, and real-life experiences. Children learn to understand numbers, patterns, shapes, quantities, and basic problem-solving concepts.

Expression

Music & Drama

Music and Drama are an important part of our curriculum. Through singing, movement, role-play, and performance, children develop creativity, self-expression, confidence, communication, and social skills.

Movement

Outdoor Play

We believe children learn not only in the classroom but also through movement and exploration. Every child enjoys 30–60 minutes of outdoor play each day, giving them opportunities to stay active, develop physical skills, interact with friends, and explore their surroundings.

Environment

The environment acts as a teacher in its own right — set up so children can reach, choose and return materials by themselves.
